Although full details have yet to be announced, information has leaked about Samsung's plans to a very significant new launch - a Windows tablet called the Galaxy TabPro S2. This could well be a genuine rival to the iPad.

It looks like the TabPro will have a 12-inch Super AMOLED Quad HD display and a 7th Generation 3.1GHz Intel Core i5-7200U processor. It will have 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD storage. The device will be available on both Windows 10 Home and Window 10 Pro.

Of course, this will be the follow-up to the 2016 Galaxy TabPro S, and it really does look like it will be taking it to a new, very impressive, level.

Two-in-one hybrid

The specification of the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S2 seems to show that the brand is trying to reach out to people who like the idea of a two-in-one hybrid. It will obviously work as a standalone tablet, but by adding the keyboard it doubles up as a laptop. By running on the Windows 10 operating system, it puts the Galaxy TabPro S2 in competition with other Windows devices that can be converted from notebook to tablet, most notably Microsoft's Surface Pro.

At the moment, people that don't want iOS and therefore are looking for something akin to the iPad really only have the Surface Pro as a genuine alternative. If the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S2 turns out to be all it is cracked up to be then the competition for this sector of the market looks like being a three horse race.

With different Windows 10 options - Home or Pro - and a choice of Wi-Fi options too, users will have the opportunity to tailor a model to meet their particular needs. All in all, the TabPro S2 looks like being a very exciting prospect that could become a really important device for the Samsung brand.
